Wilmington - The Wilmington City Council approved $70 million in financing on Tuesday night (4/18/2023) to purchase the downtown Thermo Fisher campus. The agreement would impose a 1.5 cent per dollar increase on the local sales tax to complete the building puirchase. The vote was unanimous, with Republicans Luke Waddell, Charlie Rivenbark, and Neil Anderson all voting for the building fiancaing and the sales tax increase.

Along with our endorsed candidate, Melissa Mason, all of the Republican candidates won a spot of the New Hanover County Board of Education. The New Hanover RLC congratulates all the winning candidates, while being particularly thrilled with the results for Melissa.

Unfortunately, Matt Rhodes, the New Hanover RLC's endorsed candidate for Sheriff, came up short in his election race. We appreciate Matt's hard work on the campaign trail and his dedication to the Constitution and our liberties.

The latest hearing on the question of a New Hanover County mask mandate ended in a stalemate of sorts Tuesday morning. The 5-to-5 split vote will keep masks optional across the county.

The New Hanover County School Board has voted to reinstate a mask mandate in schools, effective Thursday. The mandate applies inside all school buildings with the exception of active athletic participation.

David Perry said he always complied with wearing masks in public after the COVID-19 pandemic began, and got his vaccine soon after becoming eligible in May. Now, he’s suing the New Hanover County Board of Education for continuing to require masks and refusing to allow patrons to enter without a face covering. 

A critical motion hearing in the case of David A. Perry vs the New Hanover County School Board, et al, will occur at the New Hanover County Superior Court on November 2, 2021. We are asking everyone who stands for mask freedom to join us from 9am - 11am to peacefully protest and/or observe the hearing.

Lawsuit alleges that policy of excluding the maskless public from school board meetings violate the NC Open Meetings Act, and our petition and assembly rights that are protected by the NC and US constitutions.

HB 829 could save the rights of property owners to utilize their properties as short term rentals. Ted Davis (R)(HD 20) and Charlie Miller (R)(HD19) have already opposed the bill, and Bill Rabon (R)(SD8) could kill the bill in the NC Senate committee that he chairs. We explore the issues, and what might be driving opposition to the bill.

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners voted 3-2 to raise property taxes in the county. While some of the new revenue is budgeted for teacher pay increases, they also gave themselves a raise. Republican Bill Rivenbark sided with Democrats Julia Olson-Boseman and Jonathan Barfield to pass the measure.

New Hanover County seems to have no qualms about spying on you in order to influence your personal decision on whether to smoke or vape. The surveillance state is alive and well in Wilmington, NC.

Ask any American and they will tell you that they support liberty and freedom. But do they really? Sadly, due to our collective complacency and our slow, but steady indoctrination by of the forces of big government, the words 'liberty' and 'freedom' have little meaning beyond being patriotic slogans.
