Wilmington - The Wilmington City Council approved $70 million in financing on Tuesday night (4/18/2023) to purchase the downtown Thermo Fisher campus. The agreement would impose a 1.5 cent per dollar increase on the local sales tax to complete the building puirchase. The vote was unanimous, with Republicans Luke Waddell, Charlie Rivenbark, and Neil Anderson all voting for the building fiancaing and the sales tax increase.

Along with our endorsed candidate, Melissa Mason, all of the Republican candidates won a spot of the New Hanover County Board of Education. The New Hanover RLC congratulates all the winning candidates, while being particularly thrilled with the results for Melissa.

Unfortunately, Matt Rhodes, the New Hanover RLC's endorsed candidate for Sheriff, came up short in his election race. We appreciate Matt's hard work on the campaign trail and his dedication to the Constitution and our liberties.

The New Hanover County School Board has voted to reinstate a mask mandate in schools, effective Thursday. The mandate applies inside all school buildings with the exception of active athletic participation.

David Perry said he always complied with wearing masks in public after the COVID-19 pandemic began, and got his vaccine soon after becoming eligible in May. Now, he’s suing the New Hanover County Board of Education for continuing to require masks and refusing to allow patrons to enter without a face covering. 

A critical motion hearing in the case of David A. Perry vs the New Hanover County School Board, et al, will occur at the New Hanover County Superior Court on November 2, 2021. We are asking everyone who stands for mask freedom to join us from 9am - 11am to peacefully protest and/or observe the hearing.

HB 829 could save the rights of property owners to utilize their properties as short term rentals. Ted Davis (R)(HD 20) and Charlie Miller (R)(HD19) have already opposed the bill, and Bill Rabon (R)(SD8) could kill the bill in the NC Senate committee that he chairs. We explore the issues, and what might be driving opposition to the bill.

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners voted 3-2 to raise property taxes in the county. While some of the new revenue is budgeted for teacher pay increases, they also gave themselves a raise. Republican Bill Rivenbark sided with Democrats Julia Olson-Boseman and Jonathan Barfield to pass the measure.

A proposal that would legalize medical marijuana for conditions like cancer, HIV/AIDS and severe PTSD in North Carolina will be back up for debate in 2022.

The fate of legalized medical maijuana in North Carolina faced a stiff test on Thursday. However, it has escaped defeat within all the committees it has passed through, and is ready for an up/down vote in the NC Senate next. 

North Carolina Republicans are right to be concerned, and are right to want to get North Carolina back to work. The problem is that their solution also includes writing $1500 bonus checks to those on unemployment to actually get off their 'duff' and get back to work.

The NC Sheriffs Association has now done a 180 degree turn and now supports dismantlement of the North Carolina Pistol Purchase Permit system. The NC House has now revised legislation to this end. If signed into law pistols would be sold like longarms in NC; simply requiring an instant background check.

One of the highest-ranking Republicans in the North Carolina legislature supports medical marijuana. Brunswick County Sen. Bill Rabon, chairman of the powerful Senate Rules Committee, introduced a bill Wednesday to legalize marijuana for medical use.

In the House, Republicans may be able to get the majority back, but the
margin will be extremely thin compared to what was anticipated. In short, the Red Wave has evaporated into the Red Fizzle. But why?

But as Rose notes, a younger right is rising that finds reactionary ideas relevant and appealing: 'Republican politicians won't know them all…but their young aides will,' he writes. 'At conservative magazines, senior editors don't read them, but their junior staff do.' The ranks of the self-styled 'new nationalist conservatives' are filled with these reaction-curious types. They 'take as a premise,' Rose explains, 'that American conservatism as it had defined itself for generations is intellectually dead. Its defense of individual liberty, limited government, and free trade is today a symptom of political decadence.'

Two recent and unconnected revelations demonstrate that the deep state remains engaged, deceptive and dangerous.

Here is the backstory.

Since 2014, thousands of state and local governments have sued pharmaceutical companies they blamed for causing the 'opioid crisis' by exaggerating the benefits and minimizing the risks of prescription pain medication.

Establishment Republicans like New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu are starting to lash out as liberty Republicans in the 'Granite State' have taken him to task on COVID-19 Restrictions, bloated budget proposals, and even a veto of anti Critical Race Theory legislation.

A contributing factor to our national debt is the fact that when a fiscally conservative state (like Wyoming or North Carolina) refuses federal grant money, those funds will be reallocated to other states. The recently introduced 'Pay Down the Debt' Act would make sure these funds get used towards paying down the national debt. 

RLC member Rep. Thomas Massie displayed the courage of his convictions for refusing to abide by Nancy Pelosi's mask mandate in the US House of Representatives. As a result he was fined $500. Mr. Massie insists that the current mask mandate in the House is not based on science.

Republican officials, who have created a cottage industry out of blasting progressives for their cancel-culture habit of boycotting and shaming people who say and do things they don’t like, went into full cancel-culture mode and railed against corporations.
